SCS70 Pro

The ATC SCS70 Pro is a 12"/300mm powerful powered subwoofer engineered to provide the exceptional performance demanded by professional audio engineers and musicians and supporting the lineup of characteristic of ATC active studio monitors. Its performance and functionality make it perfect for stereo applications and multi-channel audio formats.
ATC has a long history of loudspeaker system development that begins at the component level. The SCS70 Pro is no exception. The subwoofer features an ATC engineered and manufactured sub-bass driver designed for optimal reproduction of the lowest four octaves of the audio spectrum. To achieve the best possible results, it features a gap in the magnet of 30mm, which is 50% deeper than any other ATC model. The combination of a deep gap and a short voice coil further improves on a long-established ATC design trait. On the one hand, this minimizes magnetic non-linearities, on the other hand, an extremely linear deflection is achieved, which ensures a particularly accurate and dynamic bass reproduction. Generating such a high-energy magnetic flux across such a deep gap required extensive use of FAE modeling. The resulting 6"/150mm N48M neodymium magnet is the most powerful ATC has built to date. It's also a first for the company. In addition to minimizing distortion, the combination of a short voice coil and deep gap ensures that the voice coil is guided within the driver's drive at all times, even at high volumes The effects are maximum cooling, reduced power compression and improved reliability Whirl noise within the driver is minimized by a large opening in the center of the driver
The SCS70 Pro subwoofer offers an extended response in the bass range, which, in contrast to many other subwoofers currently on the market, does not require electronic equalization. Instead, a much more elegant combination of exceptional technology and a marginally larger case volume is used. The simplicity of this approach reduces phase shifts, making it easier to integrate the sub with the accompanying monitor speakers. Ultimately, this provides the listener with a more balanced sound image and extends the reproduction in the bass range without obscuring details or changing the sound character in the upper bass and lower midrange.
Drawing on 34 years of amplifier design experience, ATC engineers designed a new amplifier for this subwoofer from the ground up. Handcrafted by ATC in the UK, the 300W Class A/B design is precision tuned to the driver's requirements, resulting in fast and dynamic bass response with minimal coloration. Two balanced inputs are available for connection to stereo and multi-channel audio systems, while the two balanced outputs are used to connect monitor speakers or to loop through multiple subs. The low-pass filters are analog 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters. The frequency options ensure optimal integration with a wide range of studio monitors. An industry-standard 80Hz low-pass filter and an “off” option (for external processing) are also included. A polarity switch and a continuously variable 180° phase adjustment allow additional optimization of the subwoofer crossover, while a ratcheted attenuator allows precise volume adjustment in the range of 21dB.
Extending the low bass response of a monitoring system offers many benefits, however, reducing the bass energy in the control room allows the user to temporarily focus on a specific problem in a higher frequency range. This feature can be implemented quickly and easily thanks to the mute circuit of the SCS70 Pro, which is operated via a single foot switch (connection via a 6.35 mm jack socket). In addition, several subwoofers can be muted with the same foot switch if the switching signal is looped through via the Thru socket.
Its size and performance make the SCS70 Pro an ideal partner for many of ATC's monitor speakers, from the SCM12 Pro to the SCM50A Pro. Several subs can be used for higher performance, for the sound reinforcement of larger rooms or for combination with larger speaker models. Buffered, linkable inputs and outputs, as well as the linked mute circuit, allow for easy connection of multiple subs. Multi-channel audio formats place particularly high demands on subwoofers and this model offers significant improvements in terms of dynamics and transparency at higher sound pressure levels. The use of DARDT (Dolby Audio Room Design Tool) is recommended for setting up ATC monitoring systems for Dolby Atmos.
When developing the SCS70 Pro, the focus was on resolution and integration. The user thus benefits from an extended bass foundation and higher dynamics without making compromises in the coordination between the upper bass and the lower mid-range. Users who work with smaller monitors and don't have room for larger midfield or main monitors can benefit from this upgrade. Whichever application you choose, the SCS70 Pro is a powerful addition to the Professional Series lineup.
