COPLAND > Introducing the CTA407
The music interface par excellence
Your amplifier is the interface between your signal sources and your speaker system. What is lost at this point remains lost forever - and conversely, it amplifies everything that comes in at the front. Sonic excellence is therefore extremely important here. The Copland CTA407 is an evolution of the CTA405, which has been an object of desire for audiophiles around the world since its introduction more than a decade ago - and the best answer to demanding audio questions.
Reliability
Amplifiers are also commodities in daily use. They have to be stable and reliable - technically and physically. With tube amplifiers in particular, the demands on technical durability are enormous. The CTA407 counters these with special technologies. It automatically adjusts itself to every tube in the 6550/KT88/KT120/KT150 family - broken tubes due to incorrect operation are virtually impossible.
Design
The appearance of most Copland amplifiers is characterized by a certain luxurious purism. With the CTA407 tube amplifier, Copland took his concept to the extreme and created what we think is one of the most beautiful amplifiers of all time. Without compromising on simplicity and yet quite a lot of electronics are built in to support the amplifier's audio stages. A total of forty LED diodes on the front panel (10 for each tube) are the visual part of the CTA407 tube bias and diagnostic system. And yes, the LEDs can be turned off if you don't want to constantly read the status of your power tubes.
Furnishing
The CTA407 features five line level inputs, including a tape monitoring loop. The additional integrated phono preamp accepts both moving magnet and high output moving coil cartridges. The CTA407 features a motorized volume control and is fully controllable via the Copland RC102A remote control
Performance
The push-pull output stages consist of a pair of matched power tubes in a fixed, ultra-linear configuration that offer triode low distortion and tetrode performance. A pair of 6550 or KT family tubes in a push-pull configuration can deliver in excess of 100 watts of output power. However, the CTA407 deliberately dampens the output power and delivers 2x 50 watts in high-biased class A/AB mode. In practice, this means that the amplifier can deliver most of its power in Class A operation and therefore with little distortion and with a high degree of musicality.
Sound
Thanks to the outstanding quality of the output transformers, the Copland CTA407 achieves excellent linearity before feedback occurs. This reduces the need for internal compensation networks while maintaining high stability. The CTA407 offers exceptionally precise music reproduction without tiring the listener. Long-term music enjoyment with outstanding dynamics and great flexibility in the choice of loudspeakers. The vanishingly low self-noise of the amplifier is a stroke of luck, especially for owners of speaker systems with a high level of efficiency.
